Remerge Films is a Scotland-based boutique studio seeking to produce distinct new films from emerging and remerging voices, created by Abigail Howkins
Having won a BAFTA Scotland Best Short Film award for her first short drama as a producer (Wish, 2002) and a BAFTA New Talent Best New Producer award for her first feature drama as co-producer (Running in Traffic, 2009), as well as producing several well-loved and well-travelled short films (Manji, 2002 | Swansong, 2004 | Mono, 2006 | Floating is Easy, 2009), Abigail has spent her hiatus from producing supporting the training and professional development of emerging and established screen talent in Scotland, and widening access to and representation within the film and TV industry.
This has included her work with the National Film and Television School, where she managed the start-up and portfolio expansion of the organisation’s strategic creative hubs in Glasgow and Edinburgh (now home to the prestigious Sean Connery Talent Lab and the School’s first Certificate in Documentary Storytelling), led the development of its online expansion in 2020, established new regional infrastructure, built industry partnerships, and develops sustainable models for screen talent to access world-class training across Scotland.
Her work across the sector has also encompassed creative enterprise and talent development roles with the University of the West of Scotland Creative Media Academy, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and Diversity Films CIC , a pioneering social enterprise (supported by Scottish Screen, 4Talent, and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation) she co-founded to create grassroots pathways into the screen industries for underrepresented talent in Scottish communities – work that has contributed to the design, delivery, and growth of programmes that widen access while strengthening Scotland’s independent screen economy.
Alongside this strategic work, Abigail has returned to her own creative development and is currently writing a feature project she intends to bring to market.
